PROGRAM INFORMATION

PROGRAM CONSISTS OF 5 TEAMS (9A, 9B, B Squad, JV and Varsity)

 

VARSITY HEAD COACH: JOSH PELTIER

 

Program Goals:

  • Learn lifelong lessons

Length of season: Ninth Grade tryouts are the week of November 11th, 2024. Grades 10-12 begin November 18, 2024

Tryout Dates:

9th Grade

  • November 11th: 6:00-8:00 PM
  • November 12th: 6:00-8:00 PM

10th-12th Grade

  • November 18th: 3:30-6:30 PM
  • November 19th: 3:30-6:30 PM
  • *If a fall sport is still going on, those athletes will be granted 2 days of tryouts following the completion of their season

Parent Meeting: Monday November 25th @ 7:00 pm in ERHS Cafeteria

Pictures: Tuesday November 26th @ 3:15 PM

Bus Schedule: Can be found on website calendar listed with all road games where a bus is provided. Subject to change, players will be notified when bus times change.

Travel Expectations: All players must be in either an East Ridge Basketball Travel Suit (doesn’t need to be from this year) or dress up in collared shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes. If you need assistance with this please see your grade level coach.

All players are to treat each other, our fans, our opponent, opposing fans, equipment, property, opposing coaches, and administration with great respect. We want our locker room and bench area to be cleaner than when we arrive!

Player Communication: Players should communicate directly with their grade level coach with any schedule conflicts or sicknesses via email, text or call

POLICY REGARDING ABSENCES FROM GAMES OR PRACTICES

  • 1 unexcused absence - will be suspended for 1 half of game 

  • 2 unexcused absences - will be suspended for 1 full game

  • 3 unexcused absences - dismissal from team

Excused absences - no penalty; however, if you are not at practice or a game, someone else will be in your position.  When you return you must earn your position back.  Coaches will make playing time decisions when players return from absences based on what the coaches believe is best for the team at that time.

DEFINITIONS:

Unexcused absence (some examples, list is not all inclusive):

  1. Missing a practice, scrimmage, or game without approved absence.
  2. Missing a practice, scrimmage, or game because of work.
  3. Taking tests or getting additional help after school without letting the coach know in advance.
  4. Appointments (Doctor, Dental, Etc.) or illnesses that are not verified. Try to avoid potential conflicts when scheduling appointments.

Excused absence (some examples, list is not all inclusive):

Illness or injury.  Should have a note and a reasonable amount of time given for rehab and recovery.

•   Attendance while injured: be at games and practices as usual unless you are receiving treatment or therapy.

•   Attendance while ill: for practice and games you must be in school by the designated time. If you are too sick to come to school you should stay home.  Don't run the risk of infecting others.

Family matters: Days for family reasons are understandable - No penalty.  Please communicate to avoid problems for the team.

ANY ABSENCE NOT COMMUNICATED PRIOR TO THE ABSENCE WILL BE CONSIDERED UNEXCUSED

Parent Communication Policy: 24 Hour Rule - Parents must wait 24 before contacting a coach following a game.

Communication Steps:

  1. Player -> Grade Level Coach
  2. Player and Parent ->Grade Level Coach
  3. Player -> Varsity Head Coach
  4. Player and Parent ->Varsity Head Coach
  5. Player and Parent -> Varsity Head Coach and East Ridge Administration

Appropriate topics for discussion:

  • Purpose (Why?)
  • Treatment of Student/Athlete

COACHES WILL NOT DISCUSS: amount of playing time, strategies, other student-athletes.

Eligibility requirements: Must meet MSHSL and ISD 833 Schools Eligibility Requirements. Must be fully registered with the Activities Office. Eligible sports qualifying physical, eligibility form, and fee payment must be on file in the Activities Office before participation.

Team Size:

9th Grade (A and B Team): 17-20 total

B Squad: 10-12 Total

JV/Varsity:  17-18 Total

Costs and/or needed equipment: Participation fee. Must provide shoes. Booster club membership is strongly encouraged

Awards criteria & type of awards: Lettering requirements determined by head coach.

Community Service: Will be announced in season.

Student leadership: Captains are selected by the team. The number varies year to year.

Winter Weather

Early Dismissal= JV/Varsity practices only

No School= all games/meets/practices are canceled

Fundraising Activities & Dates:

ERAA Boys Youth Tournament – December 14th and 15th

 -Each player is expected to work at least 1 clock shift during tournament

Holiday Raffle (December)

-Each family will be asked to sell a certain amount of tickets

Spring AAU Tournament - TBD

-All players from previous season are expected to volunteer

Holiday Tournament (December 27th and 28th 2024)

 

Booster club membership fee is $200 (Paid following team formation)
